For Authors
Submit ManuscriptContributing to the Print Edition
The Harvard Journal of Law & Gender welcomes unsolicited manuscripts and comments on issues relating to gender and the law and feminist jurisprudence. Our Selection Committee considers submissions on a rolling basis throughout the academic year and during the summer, beginning in early February. In compelling circumstances, expedited review may be granted at the discretion of the Journal.
The Journal encourages scholarship from those throughout the legal and non-legal communities. We accept article submissions from professors, practitioners, and other professionals, as well as note submissions from students. All pieces are anonymized during the screening process. Submissions are reviewed for relation to the Journal’s mission, novelty, intersectionality, clarity, practicality, writing style, and citational support.
Professionals (including those pursuing an S.J.D.) should submit their manuscripts through Scholastica. These pieces should be ~15,000-30,000 words, inclusive of footnotes; double-spaced; anonymized (including the document file name); and follow the most recent edition of the Bluebook. Articles falling outside this length range may be considered, but their length will weigh against them in the selection process. Additionally, if selected, authors will be expected to independently add to or cut content from their Articles to comply with this length requirement. Use of AI to generate text is prohibited. Other AI use must be disclosed.
Students should submit their manuscripts to the specific Student Note Competition here: https://forms.gle/6bLHh7uaDtWHrz2P9. More details about Student Note requirements can be found at that link.
